Kenvue India presents recommendations for managing pediatric sensitive skin – Healthcare News

Kenvue, a major pure-play consumer health company by revenue, on Monday announced that it has presented its latest consensus on pediatric sensitive skin in partnership with India’s leading healthcare practitioners. The consensus was launched at the prestigious Mahapedicon 2024 conference, a leading pediatric care conference in Maharashtra.

“The latest consensus recommendations titled “Prevention and Management of Sensitive Skin Conditions in the Pediatric Age Group: Expert Opinion From an Indian Panel via Modified Delphi Consensus Method” focuses on evidence-based consensus recommendations to help pediatricians, and dermatologists manage sensitive skin conditions in children. Sensitive skin conditions such as Atopic Dermatitis (AD), Xerosis, and Diaper Dermatitis significantly impact the well-being and quality of life not only of a baby but also its family, causing discomfort, emotional distress, and physical pain,” the company said in a statement.

A systematic review published in 2023 revealed that the prevalence of AD among the Indian pediatric population ranges from 3.1% to 7.21%, with cases on the rise due to environmental factors. While such conditions are on the rise, there continues to be lack of sufficient awareness on the importance of early intervention of these conditions amongst parents. The survey titled “Exploring Sensitive Skin Issues Among Indian Children: A Comprehensive Survey” indicated that 90% of Indian parents expressed interest in learning more about preventive measures for AD in children. The survey revealed that 17.85% of children in the study were under the age of 5 years and affected by AD in India. The survey also found that 57.3% of parents would consider using moisturizers as a preventive measure before symptoms of AD appear, highlighting a significant willingness to take action.

With an aim to strengthen awareness about pediatric AD in India, Kenvue launched this standardized consensus with an expert panel comprising 14 leading pediatricians, neonatologists, pediatric allergists and dermatologists from across India using the Modified Delphi Consensus Method.

The panel highlighted the benefits of moisturizers particularly those containing colloidal oatmeal in effectively hydrating the skin, repairing the skin barrier, and providing relief from signs and symptoms in children with sensitive skin conditions, the company stated.

Moreover, colloidal oatmeal was also recognized for its ability to restore the skin’s natural ceramide balance and microbiome, making it a cornerstone in the management of pediatric sensitive skin conditions. The long-term use of such emollients can help reduce flare-ups and minimize the need for corticosteroids, particularly in children with atopic dermatitis.

“In India, we are increasingly seeing babies experiencing sensitive skin conditions. Kenvue remains committed to supporting healthcare professionals by advancing science and research to improve pediatric care across India. Our research reinforces the need for awareness and early intervention of sensitive skin disorders to better address and manage such pediatric conditions. Preventive treatments, especially the use of moisturizers in high-risk children, can significantly reduce the severity of conditions like atopic dermatitis. Through our research and education efforts, we aim to empower both parents and healthcare professionals to make informed decisions and improve outcomes for children suffering such sensitive skin conditions,” Manish Anandani, Managing Director of Kenvue India said.
